Algerian Mohamed Amra… or “The Fly” on the Run: One of the Most Dangerous Organized Crime Figures in Romanian Security Custody

The fugitive Algerian prisoner, Mohamed Amra, known by the nickname “The Fly,” arrived at the Bucharest court in Romania with a wide smile after a daring escape from French authorities.
Amra, 30 years old, is considered one of the most prominent figures in the world of organized crime and has ties to drug gangs in Marseille. In May 2024, a Hollywood-style escape was executed when armed men attacked a prisoner transport vehicle, killing two guards and allowing Amra to flee.
Official statistics show that Algerians make up a significant portion of foreign prisoners in France. In October 2021, the number of foreign prisoners stood at 17,198, including 3,472 Algerians, making them the largest group among foreign inmates.
These events highlight the security challenges France faces in dealing with organized crime and illegal migration.
They also underscore the need for enhanced international cooperation to combat transnational criminal networks.
