In another sign of the country’s growing industrial and maritime capabilities, China announced on Friday the delivery of its second large cruise ship built entirely domestically. Named the “Adora Flora City”, the vessel was delivered in Shanghai, eastern China.

The ship is expected to begin its first commercial voyages from the Nansha International Cruise Terminal in Guangzhou, southern China, as part of its inaugural sailing season, scheduled to start on November 22.

The project was carried out by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation. Construction began in August 2022, with the manufacturing process recording significant progress compared with China’s first domestically built cruise ship, the “Adora Magic City”, achieving a 20% improvement in construction efficiency.

The new vessel features larger dimensions and enhanced technical specifications. It has a gross tonnage of 141,900 tonnes, 6,400 tonnes more than its predecessor, and measures 341 metres in length, an increase of 17.4 metres. It also features 2,130 cabins and can accommodate up to 5,232 passengers.

Following the completion of the delivery procedures, the “Adora Flora City” will undergo a series of sea trials and final preparations before being transferred to the Nansha International Cruise Terminal, scheduled for November 12. This will pave the way for the launch of its first official commercial voyages on November 22.
