After Meeting Bourita in New York, Joe Wilson Praises King Mohammed VI’s Leadership and Morocco’s Role in Supporting Peace and Stability in Africa

U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson praised the role played by Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in supporting peace and stability in Africa, while reaffirming the strength of the Moroccan-American partnership and his support for the Kingdom’s sovereignty over its Sahara.
The remarks came following a meeting between Wilson and Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, on Monday in New York, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
In a post on his account on the “X” platform, Wilson said he was “grateful” to meet with the Moroccan Foreign Minister, explaining that their discussions focused on the “strong and enduring friendship” between the United States and Morocco, as well as “Moroccan sovereignty over the Western Sahara,” in addition to the need to designate the Polisario Front as a terrorist organization.
In remarks following the meeting, the U.S. official also praised the “role” played by Morocco, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, in supporting peace and stability in Africa, while highlighting what he described as “American leadership” in support of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara.
Wilson’s positions come as part of his efforts in Congress to promote the designation of the Polisario Front as a Foreign Terrorist Organization. In June 2025, he had already introduced, alongside Democratic Representative Jimmy Panetta, a bill calling for the initiation of the process toward such a designation, an initiative that received the support of several members of Congress.
A Republican from South Carolina, Joe Wilson plays a prominent role in the Congressional Morocco Caucus, which brings together members of both the Republican and Democratic parties and works to strengthen relations between the United States and Morocco.
Wilson’s statements reflect continued interest within the U.S. Congress in Moroccan-American relations and in Morocco’s regional role in supporting stability and peace in Africa, alongside his reaffirmation of support for the Kingdom’s sovereignty over its Sahara and for strengthening bilateral cooperation in the political, security and economic fields.
