From “Made in China” to “Chinese Services”: Beijing Launches a New Global Brand

Beijing, the Chinese capital, hosted a new edition of the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) on September 10, 2026, at Shougang Park, amid growing international interest in China’s services sector and its role in the global economy.
This year’s edition carries particular significance as it is the first full edition of the fair held during the initial phase of China’s implementation of its 15th Five-Year Plan.

Against this backdrop, the fair highlighted three key priorities: strengthening openness, expanding prospects for international cooperation, and promoting innovation in the services sector.
The significance of the event went beyond showcasing the latest products and service solutions. It also reflected the rapid progress made by Chinese companies and service providers over recent years.
One of the most notable developments at the 2026 edition was the establishment of a dedicated “Chinese Services” exhibition area within the fair’s main venue. The initiative reflects growing confidence in the sector’s competitiveness while providing it with a more prominent platform to engage with international visitors and partners.
The concept of “Chinese Services” therefore appears to be emerging as a new global brand, alongside the reputation that Chinese products have built under the “Made in China” label. This development reflects a broader transformation in China’s presence in international markets—from a focus on exporting goods to an expanding strategy centered on exporting expertise, solutions and services.
