Morocco and Ghana Deepen Strategic Partnership as Bourita and Ablakwa Agree to Expand Economic and Investment Cooperation

Morocco and Ghana have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their strategic partnership, with the two countries agreeing to broaden economic, trade and investment cooperation during high-level talks held on Tuesday in Accra.
Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, met with Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, on the sidelines of the second session of the Morocco-Ghana Joint Commission for Cooperation, which they co-chaired.
The two ministers reviewed the progress achieved in bilateral relations and expressed their satisfaction with the significant advances made across various sectors since the historic visit of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to Ghana in February 2017, a milestone widely regarded as having ushered in a new era of cooperation between the two countries.
Both sides welcomed the growing momentum in economic relations, highlighting the expanding presence of Moroccan companies in the Ghanaian market, particularly in strategic sectors such as banking, housing and infrastructure. They also encouraged Ghanaian investors to increase their presence in Morocco while emphasizing the importance of boosting two-way investment flows and promoting public-private partnerships, especially in high-potential sectors including green energy, logistics and the digital economy.
Bourita and Ablakwa reaffirmed their determination to elevate bilateral cooperation in priority areas and agreed to broaden the scope of their partnership to include new strategic sectors such as industry, hydrocarbons, mining, energy efficiency, customs cooperation, postal services and agriculture, reflecting their shared ambition to build a more comprehensive Morocco-Ghana partnership.
On the trade front, the two ministers acknowledged the considerable economic potential of both countries and agreed to step up initiatives aimed at increasing bilateral trade. These efforts will include organizing trade missions, business-to-business (B2B) meetings, specialized trade fairs and economic events designed to boost commercial exchanges and improve the trade balance between Morocco and Ghana.
As part of this renewed momentum, the two ministers also agreed to establish the Ghana–Morocco Economic and Investment Forum as a regular private sector-led platform. The forum is expected to strengthen links between business communities in both countries, identify new investment opportunities and further consolidate the long-term economic partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Ghana.
