On Tuesday in Rabat, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita, received his Egyptian counterpart, Mr. Badr Abdel Aaty, who is on an official visit to Morocco. During the meeting, the Egyptian minister delivered a written message from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him.

The letter from the Egyptian president reaffirmed Egypt’s consistent and unwavering stance in support of the Moroccan Sahara. It also expressed Cairo’s backing of the autonomy initiative proposed by the Kingdom as a serious and realistic solution to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, under Morocco’s full sovereignty and in full alignment with UN Security Council resolutions and the principles of international law.

This Egyptian position comes in a changing international context marked by growing global recognition of the legitimacy of Morocco’s stance, especially from influential partners in the Arab and African worlds. This strengthens the regional and international dimension of the Moroccan autonomy initiative as a strategic option to end the artificial conflict and promote stability in the region.

The meeting between the two ministers was not limited to bilateral matters. It also served as an important opportunity to exchange views on regional issues, foremost among them the concerning humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, in light of the ongoing military escalation and its devastating human toll.

In this context, the Arab Republic of Egypt expressed deep appreciation for Morocco’s role in supporting the Palestinian cause, particularly through the chairmanship of His Majesty King Mohammed VI of the Al-Quds Committee, a body under the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which plays a pivotal role in defending the identity of the holy city and supporting the resilience of its residents.

During the talks, both sides emphasized the importance of coordinating Arab efforts to push for a lasting ceasefire in Gaza and to create favorable conditions for the resumption of the peace process, in accordance with international legitimacy and the two-state solution.

The ministers also discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in various areas, including economy, investment, cultural exchange, and security coordination. This is part of a shared vision to elevate the strategic partnership between the two countries and to broaden cooperation to include issues of sustainable development and regional challenges.

This visit comes at a time when both nations are working to strengthen their political and economic ties in response to accelerating geopolitical challenges and to bolster joint action within Arab, African, and multilateral frameworks.
