Serious Statements by Saïd Bensdira Spark Controversy Again: Calls for Extermination and Accusations of Involvement in Incitement Against the Kabyle People

On January 5, 2025, the media published a controversial video showing Saïd Bensdira, an Algerian activist residing in Paris, making unprecedented statements against the Kabyle people. In this video, which quickly spread on social media platforms, Bensdira called for the “extermination” of members of the “MAK” movement (Movement for the Autonomy of Kabylie), labeling them as “terrorists.” He also confirmed that these remarks were made in the context of defending the interests of his country, Algeria, which further fueled tensions between him and his critics.

It is important to note that Saïd Bensdira is not just a political activist; he is rumored to be working for Algerian intelligence services. The video has triggered strong reactions internationally, as many view it as a clear call for incitement to violence and hatred against members of the Algerian people abroad, specifically the Kabyle tribes.

In his controversial remarks, Bensdira stated: “If I were in Algeria, I would poison them with gas. I would exterminate them, and I would continue calling for their extermination if I were in a position to make decisions.” Bensdira added proudly, “I am not a terrorist; I am a patriotic Algerian defending the interests of my country. I will not allow anyone to interfere in Algeria’s internal affairs.”

Bensdira also attacked what he referred to as his enemies from the MAK movement, calling them “terrorists” supported by foreign powers, including French President Emmanuel Macron and far-right parties in France. Despite his sharp criticism of French authorities, the response from activists and observers was swift, with many considering his statements as an incitement to discord and violence, which could lead to further legal investigations.

For its part, French authorities have not yet issued any official response to these statements, but they raise concerns about freedom of expression and its limits in a country considered the birthplace of human rights in the world. Sharp questions have emerged about the French government’s role in regulating hate speech and incitement to violence, especially in the case of Bensdira, who is currently under house arrest in Paris.

Bensdira’s statements are not new in the context of political tensions between Algeria and its internal opponents from the Kabylie region, but they once again highlight the deep divisions within Algerian society between those who support the unity of the state and those who demand independence. This reflects the complexity of the national conflict in Algeria and underscores that this issue is not only a local matter but part of the broader debate between Algeria and international powers.

Although Saïd Bensdira’s remarks did not come from an ordinary individual, they reflect a deep internal divide in Algeria and raise questions about France’s role in protecting the rights of minorities and defending freedom of expression. During these sensitive times, it will be important to closely monitor the developments of the case to ensure that the situation does not deteriorate further.
