China’s Ambassador in Rabat Launches First “Ambassador’s Scholarship” for Outstanding Moroccan Students

The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Rabat on Thursday hosted a reception and scholarship award ceremony for a group of outstanding Moroccan students, marking the launch of the first edition of the “Ambassador’s Scholarship,” an initiative aimed at supporting Moroccan youth and encouraging them to pursue their academic studies at Chinese educational institutions.
The initiative is designed to open up new opportunities for the selected students and allow them to benefit from China’s academic and educational experience, while expanding their knowledge and strengthening their skills. The aim is for these newly acquired skills and expertise to be put to use in the future in support of Morocco’s development.
The ceremony was presided over by China’s Ambassador to Morocco, Yu Jinsong, and attended by the scholarship recipients and their parents, as well as a number of officials and directors of Confucius Institutes in Morocco.
On the occasion, Ambassador Yu announced the launch of the first edition of the “Ambassador’s Scholarship” and expressed her pride in the level of excellence demonstrated by Moroccan students.
She stressed that investing in young people and education represents an important bridge for strengthening the longstanding ties of friendship and cooperation between Morocco and China.
Following in the footsteps of Ibn Battuta
In her opening remarks, Ambassador Yu said that the Moroccan students heading to China to continue their studies would, in a symbolic sense, be following in the footsteps of the renowned Moroccan traveller Ibn Battuta, who journeyed across vast parts of the world and reached China.
She encouraged the scholarship recipients to make the most of their academic experience in China, develop their abilities and broaden their knowledge.
The ambassador stressed that their eventual return to Morocco should provide an opportunity to put the knowledge and experience they have acquired at the service of the Kingdom and contribute to its development.
She also urged the students not to limit their experience in China to academic studies alone, but to use their stay to gain first-hand knowledge of Chinese society, culture and everyday life.
The students were encouraged to look beyond stereotypes and preconceived images and to discover the country’s rich cultural and civilizational heritage.
Building new bridges between Morocco and China
Ambassador Yu underlined that, through their academic careers and experiences in China, the students could become new bridges of communication between the two countries in the future.
Their exposure to Chinese society, culture and education could help them contribute to strengthening mutual understanding and further developing the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Morocco and China and between their two peoples.
Addressing the parents of the scholarship recipients, Ambassador Yu acknowledged that sending their children to a distant country could naturally raise some concerns.
She reassured them, however, that the Chinese Embassy in Morocco would remain by their side and would closely accompany the students and follow their situation throughout their stay in China.
She stressed that the embassy would remain available to both students and their families and would provide the necessary support and assistance whenever needed, helping ensure that the students could pursue their studies in suitable conditions.
Education as a pillar of bilateral cooperation
The launch of the “Ambassador’s Scholarship” reflects the growing importance attached to strengthening Moroccan-Chinese cooperation in education and training.
Beyond its academic dimension, the initiative offers Moroccan students an opportunity to gain a new educational, cultural and human experience that could enrich their personal and professional journeys while fostering greater mutual understanding.
It also represents another step toward strengthening ties between Morocco and China, with a particular focus on younger generations, who can play an important role in building lasting bridges and consolidating the friendship and cooperation between the two countries in the years ahead.
