Bourita: Morocco-Spain Partnership Is Based on Dialogue, Mutual Respect and Good-Neighbourliness

The relationship between Morocco and Spain is and will remain based on the principles set out in the Joint Declaration of April 2022, adopted following discussions between His Majesty King Mohammed VI and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad Nasser Bourita said Thursday in New York.

“These are the principles of partnership, mutual respect and dialogue, as well as principles aimed at avoiding faits accomplis and unexpected actions,” Mr. Bourita told the press following talks with his Spanish counterpart, José Manuel Albares, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

These principles also make it possible to “focus on what unites us and contain areas of disagreement,” the minister stressed, underscoring the need for dialogue and consultation between the two countries.

“There are many areas on which we agree and where we can move forward,” Mr. Bourita continued, adding that, when it comes to points of disagreement, “we must engage in dialogue, consult with each other, and be guided by the spirit of good-neighbourliness and cooperation.”
