New York.. Bourita Highlights His Majesty the King’s Vision to Support Sahel Countries on the Path to Security, Development and Prosperity

Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, on Friday in New York highlighted the Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to support Sahel countries in their efforts to achieve security, development and prosperity.
In an address delivered during a high-level event on “Security and Development in the Sahel Region,” held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Bourita recalled the deep historical ties linking Morocco with the countries of the Sahel through the trans-Saharan routes crossing the Moroccan Sahara, trade and exchanges, as well as a shared human and spiritual heritage.
He stressed that these ties constitute a living bridge between peoples and a foundation for building a common future.
Bourita also underlined that the Sahel region cannot and should not be approached solely from the perspective of the challenges it faces, highlighting the significant assets and opportunities available in the region, particularly its young population, natural resources, and promising prospects in the agricultural, energy and mining sectors.
The minister stressed that “the challenge lies in turning these assets into tangible opportunities for the benefit of the peoples of the Sahel,” highlighting the Royal Initiative aimed at facilitating the access of Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean, which seeks to bring about a profound transformation in the economies of these brotherly countries and the region as a whole.
Bourita also reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to standing alongside the countries of the Sahel, in a spirit of solidarity and mutual respect, non-interference in internal affairs, respect for sovereignty and national choices, and cooperation, while taking into account the priorities of these brotherly countries.
The minister further stressed that Morocco’s commitment to the countries of the Sahel is not merely a partnership, but rather a commitment “deeply rooted in history, nourished by bonds of brotherhood, and looking towards a common future.”
