Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, held a meeting in New York with the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for the Moroccan Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, at the latter’s request.
During the meeting, the Moroccan delegation, led by Bourita, reiterated the unwavering constants of Morocco’s position on the Sahara issue, as defined by His Majesty King Mohammed VI. Chief among them is Morocco’s steadfast attachment to the Kingdom’s sovereignty over the Sahara and the view that the Autonomy Initiative is the sole realistic and credible political solution to this artificial dispute.
The meeting took place in the context of upcoming UN deadlines at the Security Council. Both sides discussed the latest developments on the international stage, as well as the growing momentum surrounding Morocco’s national cause, illustrated by the increasing recognition of the Moroccan Sahara and the broad support for the Autonomy Initiative, regarded as the only basis capable of bringing a definitive end to this regional conflict.
