Massad Boulos Reaffirms Washington’s Clear Position: Autonomy under Moroccan Sovereignty Is the Only Realistic Solution to the Sahara Dispute

Massad Fares Boulos, advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump on Middle East and Africa affairs, has reaffirmed the clarity of the United States’ stance on the Moroccan Sahara issue, emphasizing that the autonomy initiative under Moroccan sovereignty represents the only realistic and practical solution to end the artificially created regional conflict.

This position was expressed during a meeting between Boulos and the United Nations Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for the Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, where he explained that Washington considers the Moroccan proposal a serious and workable framework for achieving a final and lasting settlement of the dispute.

Boulos also noted, in a post on his official account on the “X” platform, that discussions addressed the important role of the MINURSO mission in maintaining regional stability, as well as prospects for strengthening efforts toward regional peace, in preparation for upcoming discussions at the UN Security Council on the file.

This stance once again underscores the United States’ commitment to supporting the autonomy initiative, in line with a growing trend within the international community that views the Moroccan proposal as the most serious, credible, and realistic solution to end a decades-long conflict.
