Guinea-Bissau Renews from New York Its Explicit Support for Morocco’s Sovereignty over the Sahara and the Autonomy Plan

The Republic of Guinea-Bissau on Saturday, September 26, 2026, renewed its affirmation of its “clear, steadfast and unequivocal” position in support of Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its Sahara.
Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Guinea-Bissau’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Communities, Ms. Fatoumata Djau, said: “I would like to clearly reaffirm Guinea-Bissau’s steadfast position regarding the Moroccan Sahara. Guinea-Bissau wishes to reiterate its firm position in support of Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over the Sahara.”
The minister also recalled in the same statement that “Guinea-Bissau opened a Consulate General in Dakhla in 2020.”
She further renewed her country’s support for “the autonomy plan presented by Morocco as the only solution to this regional dispute.”
Ms. Djau also affirmed that “Guinea-Bissau welcomes United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797 and supports the efforts of the United Nations to reach a solution based on the autonomy plan under Moroccan sovereignty presented by Morocco.”
The minister concluded by stressing that “Guinea-Bissau’s position is clear, steadfast and unequivocal.”
