4 new lines enter service.. China strengthens interregional connectivity with high-speed trains

China put four new sections of high-speed railway lines into operation on Monday, as part of efforts to strengthen connections between several regions and facilitate travel.
The new projects include lines linking Xiong’an in Hebei Province with Shangqiu in Henan Province, Xi’an with Ankang in Shaanxi, Yichang with Xingshan in Hubei, as well as Harbin with Yichun in Heilongjiang Province.
The projects cover regions stretching across northern, northwestern, central and northeastern China. They are expected to help reduce travel times, improve interregional connectivity and provide further support for economic activity and local development.
Official data show that China’s railway network reached nearly 165,000 kilometers by the end of 2025, including more than 50,000 kilometers of high-speed rail lines, making China home to the world’s largest high-speed railway network.
China plans to continue expanding its railway infrastructure, with the total length of the operational railway network expected to reach 180,000 kilometers by 2030, including around 60,000 kilometers of high-speed rail lines.
