On the occasion of the 26th anniversary of His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s accession to the throne of his ancestors, the Chinese newspaper Global Times published a special report highlighting the significant progress Morocco has achieved under the leadership of His Majesty the King. The report confirms that the Kingdom is undertaking a model developmental journey that combines economic, social, and environmental ambition.
The report states that the Throne Day in Morocco is not just a traditional celebration, but a national symbol reflecting the unity of the country and the cohesion of its people with their leadership. It highlights the reform process that began when King Mohammed VI assumed power in 1999.
The newspaper pointed to major achievements in infrastructure that have transformed Morocco’s landscape, especially the highway network stretching over 2,000 kilometers, as well as the inauguration of the first high-speed train in Africa between Tangier and Casablanca, which contributed to strengthening economic and regional connectivity. It also praised the “Port of Tanger Med,” one of the largest ports in the world and a symbol of Morocco’s position as a global logistics hub.
The report also focused on Morocco’s leadership in renewable energy, particularly the Noor Ouarzazate solar power project, one of the largest worldwide, and Morocco’s ambitious commitment to generate more than half of its electricity needs from clean sources by 2030. It mentioned the country’s progress in the field of green hydrogen, emphasizing the state’s support for this future technology.
Economically, the report highlighted Morocco’s shift towards advanced industries such as automotive and aerospace, with major investments from global companies like Renault and Boeing. It pointed out the Kingdom’s success in diversifying its economy and enhancing competitiveness thanks to an investment-friendly environment and development of the digital sector.
The report did not overlook social aspects, considering the National Initiative for Human Development launched in 2005 as a reflection of Morocco’s commitment to social justice, through improving education, healthcare, youth employment, and reforms in social protection systems and family laws.
On the international front, the newspaper mentioned Morocco’s pivotal role in promoting regional integration through initiatives like the “Atlantic African States Corridor” and the gas pipeline project with Nigeria, alongside strengthening cooperation ties with Europe, the Gulf, China, and America, reflecting an active and balanced foreign policy.
In the field of sports, Global Times praised the historic achievement of the Moroccan national football team reaching the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup, and Morocco’s preparations to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and co-organize the 2030 World Cup, reflecting Morocco’s support for youth and its sporting leadership.
