Iraq’s Strong Support for Morocco’s Territorial Integrity: Fouad Hussein’s Visit to Rabat Reflects the Commitment of Both Countries to Fraternal Relations

As part of strengthening bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Iraq, Mr. Fouad Hussein, Iraq’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, paid an official visit to Morocco from February 5 to 8, 2025, at the invitation of his counterpart, Mr. Nasser Bourita. The visit, held in a spirit of friendly cooperation, reflects the deep historical ties between the two countries and addressed ways to enhance cooperation in various political and economic fields.

During meetings with several Moroccan officials, the Iraqi Foreign Minister reaffirmed his country’s firm stance in support of Morocco regarding its territorial integrity, stressing Iraq’s backing for the autonomy plan as the optimal solution to the Sahara conflict. This position reflects strong solidarity between the two peoples and reinforces the ties of cooperation between the two countries in addressing regional and international challenges.

The consultations between the two ministers also focused on ways to enhance economic and trade cooperation, with agreements made to open new avenues for mutual investment that would benefit both countries. The Kingdom of Morocco expressed its appreciation for Iraq’s ongoing efforts to support regional stability, emphasizing the importance of joint action to tackle various regional issues.

On another front, both parties agreed to further strengthen diplomatic relations between Rabat and Baghdad by reinforcing the institutional framework for cooperation, including the holding of the 11th session of the Joint Commission between the two countries in Baghdad in the near future. Both sides also welcomed the reopening of the Moroccan embassy in Baghdad, considering it an important step towards enhancing bilateral relations.

This visit once again affirms Iraq’s full support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, with Iraq reiterating this position on several occasions, including its rejection of any attempts to destabilize the region.
