French justice pursues Algerian diplomat over serious charges… Paris exposes the criminal face of the Algerian regime

French judicial authorities have recently issued an international arrest warrant against a former Algerian diplomat who served as First Secretary at the Algerian Embassy in Paris, accused of direct involvement in the kidnapping of the well-known Algerian dissident “Amir DZ” on French soil.
This serious legal measure places the Algerian regime in a new international predicament. According to legal analysts, it reflects the extent of Algeria’s drift in dealing with its opponents—even beyond its borders—in blatant violation of French sovereignty and international laws that prohibit exploiting diplomatic immunity to commit crimes.
The case, which has shocked public opinion in France as well as the Maghreb diaspora, is not an isolated incident. It comes within a series of violations committed by the Algerian regime against dissidents abroad, using its diplomatic channels and security apparatus to pursue critical voices. According to French media reports, investigations have proven the existence of coordination between Algerian security operatives and a local network on French territory, making the case not only criminal in nature but also highly political and diplomatic.
The warrant issued by French justice—unprecedented for an Algerian diplomat of this rank—stands as a clear indictment of Algeria’s behavior, a country that has long raised slogans of “sovereignty” and “respect for international law” in international forums, while acting in the exact opposite manner. Investigations, according to French judicial sources, indicate that the operation was carried out under diplomatic cover to execute a kidnapping plot on European soil—an explicit violation of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which stipulates respect for the laws of the host country and non-interference in its internal affairs.
This affair is expected to ignite yet another crisis in French-Algerian relations, already plagued by recurrent political and economic tensions. For Paris—viewing the incident as a threat to its national security and judicial sovereignty—there will be no leniency in pursuing those involved, especially as the case affects France’s image as a state that upholds the rule of law and protects everyone residing within its territory.
Observers believe that this scandal may accelerate a review of the privileges granted to Algerian diplomats in France, and could potentially lead to the imposition of further restrictions on their movements and activities, in order to block any similar operations in the future.
The Algerian regime in the dock
This case does not merely expose individual misconduct—it highlights the pattern of a rogue state using its official structures to commit organized crimes beyond its borders, placing the Algerian regime under the scrutiny of international criticism and strengthening calls for accountability over these violations.
In light of these facts, attention remains focused on the course of the investigations in France, and on whether Paris can compel Algeria to cooperate in handing over the suspect—especially given the Algerian regime’s long-standing record of shielding those implicated in international cases under the pretext of “national sovereignty.”
