US Secretary of State Marco Rubio Threatens South Africa with Severe Sanctions

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated in a post on the “X” platform that the chant “Kill the Boer” encourages violence against the Afrikaner minority in South Africa.
In his tweet, Rubio said: ”‘Kill the Boer’ is a chant that incites violence. South African leaders and politicians must take action to protect Afrikaners and other marginalized minorities.”
He added: “The United States takes pride in offering asylum to individuals eligible to immigrate to our country in the face of this ongoing horrific threat.”
His remarks sparked mixed reactions. Some view them as part of US pressure on the South African government, while others believe they highlight real concerns about violence against white farmers, some of whom have been attacked in recent years.
On the other hand, South African authorities denied that the chant is part of an official policy or represents a real threat, stating that it is often used in historical contexts related to the anti-apartheid struggle.
These statements come amid growing tensions between Washington and Pretoria over South Africa’s stance on international issues, raising questions about whether this matter will impact relations between the two countries.
