At a time of rising tensions in the Middle East, the Kingdom of Morocco has reiterated its unwavering support for the security and stability of the Arab Gulf states, stressing that the security of these countries is an integral part of Morocco’s national security.
This position was expressed by Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, during his remote participation on Sunday in the extraordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, convened to discuss the Iranian attacks targeting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of several Arab countries.
In his address, Bourita emphasized that His Majesty King Mohammed VI has always considered the security and stability of the Gulf states to be part of Morocco’s own security. He underlined that the ties between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Gulf countries go beyond traditional diplomatic relations, constituting a strategic partnership built on political and security solidarity.
The minister noted that this royal position has been clearly reflected in the phone calls held by King Mohammed VI with his brothers, the leaders of the Gulf states. These contacts, he said, illustrate Morocco’s firm support for the sovereignty and territorial unity of these countries, while reaffirming that any threat to their security represents a direct threat to the stability and security of the entire Arab region.
In this context, Bourita recalled the speech delivered by King Mohammed VI during the Morocco–Gulf Cooperation Council Summit held on April 20, 2016, in which the monarch stressed that defending shared security between Morocco and the Gulf states is not merely an act of solidarity but a strategic commitment that cannot be divided, stating:
“Morocco has always considered the security and stability of the Arab Gulf states as part of its own security. What harms you harms us, and what affects us affects you.”
Regarding regional developments, Morocco’s foreign minister strongly condemned the Iranian attacks, which he described as brutal acts against brotherly Arab states, saying they constitute a blatant violation of their sovereignty and a direct threat to regional security and stability.
Bourita also expressed Morocco’s full solidarity with the affected countries and its support for all legitimate measures they may take to safeguard their security and protect their citizens and residents on their territories.
Offering an analytical reading of the current tensions, the minister said these attacks are not isolated incidents but part of what he described as the Iranian regime’s aggressive policies in the region. He pointed to attempts to expand Tehran’s regional influence by supporting entities and armed militias loyal to it, a strategy that threatens the stability of neighboring states and fuels conflict hotspots across the Middle East.
In the face of these challenges, Bourita stressed that strengthening Arab solidarity and closing ranks within the framework of the League of Arab States remains the most effective strategic option to confront common threats and safeguard the sovereignty of Arab states and the interests of their peoples, away from divisions that could weaken the collective Arab position.
The Moroccan foreign minister concluded his remarks by calling for a unified and firm Arab stance against all practices that threaten the stability of the Arab region. He also stressed the need for an immediate halt to Iranian attacks, allowing diplomatic efforts to prevail and dialogue to take priority in order to reduce tensions and prevent further escalation across the region.
