Algerian Intelligence Behind “Maersk” Ship Rumors: Controversy Reaches France Amid Lack of Evidence

ALDAR/

The controversy surrounding the global shipping company “Maersk” has reached French soil, fueled by calls from the BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) movement and a number of social media pages—most of them Algerian—that claim to support the Palestinian cause. This narrative made its way into France, where it was widely echoed and amplified by far-left unions.

In a striking move, the CGT Port Workers’ Union in the Marseille-Fos area announced last week its refusal to receive a Maersk ship, claiming it had received information that the vessel was carrying military equipment destined for Israel.

However, in an unusual gesture, the company provided the union with full documentation concerning the ship’s cargo. After a thorough inspection of all containers by union representatives, no weapons, spare parts, or any suspicious materials were found, debunking the circulating allegations.

This incident follows a similar episode in the Port of Barcelona, where it was likewise confirmed that no military cargo was present, reinforcing the argument that the controversy was built on false information lacking any credible evidence.

Despite the absence of proof, several Moroccan cities witnessed protests last weekend, fueled by the same narrative. This highlights the extent to which the issue has been politicized. Whether through Islamist parties like the Justice and Development Party (PJD) in Morocco or unions such as the CGT in France, it appears that various groups are leveraging the situation to advance ideological agendas under the guise of supporting Palestine.
