Akhannouch : Gov’t Is Committed to Supporting Farmers Livestock Breeders against Rainfall Deficit

The government is committed to supporting farmers and livestock breeders to cope with the rainfall deficit during this exceptional year, the Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch stressed on Tuesday in Rabat.

In accordance with the High Royal Instructions to take the necessary measures to cope with the effects of the rainfall deficit on the agricultural sector, the government has drawn up an exceptional program to mitigate the effects of the rainfall delay and alleviate their impact on agricultural activity, by providing assistance to the farmers and breeders concerned, Akhannouch told the press following the signing ceremony of a framework agreement between the government and professionals from the agricultural sector, concerning a forward-looking program to reduce the impact of rainfall deficits and the global economic situation on agricultural activity.

A budget of around 10 billion dirhams will be allocated to this bold program, the implementation of which is taking shape with the signing of this framework agreement between the government and professionals in the agricultural sector, he added.

In this respect, he pointed out that 5 billion dirhams would be allocated to the protection of animal capital, while 4 billion dirhams would be earmarked for the protection of plant capital and the support of sectors in order to lower production costs, noting that 1 billion dirhams would be allocated to strengthening the financial capacities of the Crédit Agricole bank with a view to supporting farmers.

After highlighting the strategic role of the agricultural sector and the relevance of the “Generation Green” strategy, Akhannouch stressed the importance of adapting to the new situation for resilient and sustainable agriculture, using a responsible, participative and global approach.

For his part, the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests Mohamed Sadiki commended the implementation of this ambitious program to reduce the effects of drought and inflation on the agricultural sector as a whole.

This is a program that supports farmers and value chains, he stressed, noting that the program is made up of three essential components, namely, support for animal value chains and the poultry sector.
