The Palestinian issue remains a “constant priority” of Morocco’s foreign policy (Mr. Bourita).
In a speech delivered on behalf of Morocco during the general debate of the 81st session of the U.N. General Assembly, MFA Bourita said the Kingdom, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, believes that achieving a just and lasting peace remains contingent on the establishment of an independent, sovereign and viable Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Al-Quds as its capital, living alongside the state of Israel in peace and security.
In the face of the ongoing humanitarian tragedy affecting the brotherly Palestinian people, Morocco reiterates its urgent call for respect of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and for sufficient supplies and humanitarian aid to be delivered without obstruction or restriction, said Bourita who is leading Morocco’s delegation to the 81st session of the U.N. General Assembly.
MFA Bourita stressed the need to support the Palestinian Authority, particularly in the financial, technical, institutional, humanitarian and training fields, while supporting structural reforms of its institutions. In this regard, he highlighted the central role played by United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA)
The minister further noted that the Kingdom’s adherence to its historic commitments in favor of peace in the Middle East was reflected in its decision to join the international stabilization force for the Gaza Strip and contribute to establishing a climate of peace and security.
The contribution would include a range of measures, Bourita said, including training members of the Palestinian police, seconding senior military officers to the internal security forces, deploying a field military hospital and being prepared to undertake a programme to combat extremism.
MFA Bourita also drew attention to the gravity of developments in the West Bank, including the adoption of legislation affecting the legal status of Palestinian territories and legitimizing their annexation for the expansion of settlements, as well as a rise in systematic attacks by settlers against Palestinian civilians.
He warned against such practices, which he said aim to displace populations while undermining the foundations needed to establish an independent Palestinian state.
In this context, Bourita expressed Morocco’s deep concern over unilateral Israeli measures and repeated violations targeting Al-Aqsa Mosque, describing them as serious transgressions that fuel extremist and hateful rhetoric while undermining prospects for de-escalation and the voices of wisdom and moderation.
MFA Bourita said HM King Mohammed VI, in His capacity as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, continues His efforts to preserve the Holy City’s historic, cultural and spiritual identity, protect its legal status and improve the living conditions of its inhabitants, adding that these efforts combine political and diplomatic action with programmes implemented on the ground by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Al-Sharif Agency, the executive arm of the Al-Quds Committee.
