Senegal’s Foreign Minister Reaffirms That the “Sahara Is Moroccan”
“The Sahara is Moroccan and realism shall guide everyone” to reach a lasting solution to this regional dispute, Niang told reporters after talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, M. Nasser Bourita, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Niang also welcomed the growing support for the autonomy plan, which Morocco presented in 2007.
“We see growing support for this autonomy plan,” he said, expressing hope that realism will prevail and pave the way for its implementation.
Referring to the Royal initiatives for Africa, Niang said Senegal is “determined to work alongside our Moroccan brothers to make these initiatives visible and tangible.”
“Our discussions reassure us about the extremely positive impact of these initiatives,” which are “beneficial not only to Morocco but also to the entire African region,” he said.
