After several years under GMT+1.. Morocco prepares to return to its legal time

Morocco is set to return to its legal time (GMT) on Sunday, September 20, 2026, as part of the clock change provided for under the country’s current regulations, following several years of adopting advanced time as a quasi-permanent system in the Kingdom.
At 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, clocks will be turned back by 60 minutes to 1:00 a.m., marking the end of GMT+1 and the return to the Kingdom’s legal time.
The measure comes nearly eight years after Morocco adopted GMT+1 as its quasi-permanent time. The system was introduced in October 2018, with an exception during the month of Ramadan, when Morocco traditionally returns to its legal GMT time.
Turning the clocks back by one hour is expected to affect the schedules of several daily activities, including working hours, school schedules, transportation and certain services.
At the same time, Morocco’s current time system continues to fuel debate between those who support maintaining GMT+1 and those calling for a permanent return to GMT.
