The Government Council, meeting on Thursday under the chairmanship of the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, adopted the draft decree No 2.22.867 concerning the approval of the General Construction Regulation determining the dimensional and functional construction standards specific to tourist accommodation establishments and the creation of the National Commission on Construction Standards specific to tourist accommodation establishments.

Presented by the Minister of National Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and Urban Policy, Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri, this project is part of the reform of the legal framework of tourist accommodation, strengthened by the publication of Law No. 80.14 on tourist establishments and other forms of tourist accommodation, the Minister Delegate for Relations with Parliament, Government Spokesman, Mustapha Baitas, said at a press briefing held after the Council.

This draft decree aims to simplify the administrative procedures of classification through the merger of the provisional technical classification stipulated by Law No. 61.00, on the status of tourist establishments, with the procedures for issuing the building permit stipulated in the legislative and regulatory texts on housing, added Baitas.

It also aims to fight against unstructured accommodation through the guarantee of construction by investors of their establishments according to the standards required by the General Construction Regulation, he said.

According to the government spokesman, this General Regulation of Construction is the reference of the dimensional and functional construction standards, that each investor or carrier of tourist project is called to respect during the construction, transformation, extension of an establishment of tourist accommodation or conversion of an existing building into an establishment of tourist accommodation, in accordance with the law n°80.14.
