From Rabat, the U.S. Under Secretary of State, Christopher Landau, provided a comprehensive overview of the evolving nature of relations between Washington and Rabat, stressing that Morocco is no longer viewed solely through the lens of traditional political issues, but has become a central partner in regional stability, technological cooperation, and future-oriented strategic fields.

During his talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, the American official emphasized that the partnership between the two countries, spanning nearly 250 years, has entered a more advanced phase, based on the diversification of areas of cooperation and the strengthening of coordination on regional and international issues.

Regarding the Sahara dispute, Landau reiterated the U.S. position that Morocco’s autonomy initiative represents the most serious and realistic framework for achieving a lasting and final solution, while clearly praising Moroccan diplomacy for managing this issue with a pragmatic and calm approach.

However, the most significant aspect of his remarks lay in the emphasis on Morocco’s evolving position on the international stage. The U.S. official noted that the Kingdom’s participation in the Artemis Accords on space exploration reflects its transition into the ranks of active countries in the fields of technology, innovation, and space, which, in his view, further enhances the strategic value of the bilateral partnership for the future.

Landau also pointed out that this progress in non-traditional sectors reflects a transformation in the nature of bilateral relations, which are no longer limited to security and political frameworks, but now also encompass major scientific and economic stakes.

Overall, these statements reflect a U.S. orientation toward strengthening Morocco’s role as a multidimensional strategic partner—combining a regional stability function, a growing presence in technology and space, and continued support for Morocco’s position on the Sahara issue.
