Kenyan President Adopts New Foreign Policy Strategy to Strengthen Relations with Morocco

ALDAR/

Just hours before an anticipated official visit, Kenyan President William Ruto announced the adoption of a new strategic document issued by the Defense, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations Committee of the Kenyan Parliament. This step comes ahead of a visit by the Kenyan Foreign Minister to the Kingdom of Morocco to inaugurate his country’s embassy in the capital, Rabat.

This document serves as a comprehensive framework that outlines Kenya’s foreign policy directions for the upcoming period. It focuses on enhancing security and intelligence cooperation with international partners, including Morocco, in light of regional and international security challenges.

The adoption of this new policy reflects the significance of the bilateral relationship between Kenya and Morocco, especially with the announcement of opening a Kenyan embassy in Rabat. This confirms both countries’ keenness to strengthen diplomatic ties and enhance cooperation in multiple areas including economy, security, and intelligence.

Informed sources confirmed that the document aims to empower Kenya to face regional security challenges, particularly amid rising threats from extremist groups, with an emphasis on intelligence information exchange and coordination of efforts between the security agencies of the two countries.

This step also fits within Kenya’s strategy to strengthen its position on the African continent and rely on strategic partnerships with countries that have political and security influence in the region, such as Morocco, which enjoys a distinguished geopolitical position and expertise in intelligence and defense fields.

This policy coincides with a special interest in expanding economic relations between the two countries, as Kenyan investors increasingly view Morocco as an important investment hub offering wide opportunities in sectors such as renewable energy, tourism, and advanced technologies.

Given these developments, the coming period is expected to witness renewed momentum in cooperation between Rabat and Nairobi, reflecting the shared political will to strengthen the bonds of friendship and solidarity between the Moroccan and Kenyan peoples.
