Record Grain Production in China Strengthens Food Security and Agricultural Recovery

Official data released on Friday by China’s National Bureau of Statistics revealed that the People’s Republic of China achieved a bountiful grain harvest in 2025, with total production reaching a record 714.88 million tons.
The bureau stated that this figure represents a 1.2% year-on-year increase, noting that the abundant output was driven by growth in both cultivated land areas and per-unit production.
Grain planting areas continued to expand for the sixth consecutive year, surpassing 119 million hectares in 2025, while grain yield per unit area rose by 1.1% compared to the previous year.
Wei Fenghua, an official with the bureau, attributed this steady growth to a series of measures implemented by China, including enhanced protection of arable land, improvements in soil quality, optimized crop structures, and the rehabilitation of abandoned farmland.
He emphasized that these achievements have reinforced the momentum of China’s economic recovery and supported high-quality development, while also contributing positively to the stability of the global grain market and the strengthening of international food security.
