Mr. Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, during his participation in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, emphasized that the Kingdom of Morocco, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, continues to play an influential and proactive role in addressing major global challenges, including issues of peace, security, development, migration, climate change, and counter-terrorism.
Bourita also highlighted that the international momentum supporting Morocco’s autonomy initiative has continued strongly, thanks to the King’s enlightened vision, with the initiative gaining wide support as the sole basis for resolving the regional conflict over the Moroccan Sahara.
He explained that Morocco’s participation in the high-level week of the General Assembly served as an opportunity to reinforce this momentum, noting that recent U.S. and European positions supporting investments in the southern provinces reflect economic and political recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over these territories.
Bourita also stressed the royal initiative aimed at enabling Sahel countries to access the Atlantic Ocean, which has moved into the implementation phase and has received growing international support, noting that this vision has shifted the prevailing approach to the Sahel from being a burden to a space full of opportunities.
Accordingly, the United Nations session discussed the Royal Initiative for Atlantic Africa during a ministerial meeting, during which future dates were set to enhance cooperation in this continental space.
In line with this, Morocco emphasized at this international forum the need for major investments in African infrastructure, estimating financial requirements at 170 billion dollars to strengthen continental integration, with the Minister holding a series of bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe, within the framework of consolidating South-South cooperation and diversifying Morocco’s international partnerships.
In another context, Bourita noted that the Royal High Message addressed to the Supreme Council of Scholars on the occasion of the 1,500th anniversary of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) received wide acclaim and was considered a spiritual and intellectual reference within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
Regarding the Palestinian issue, Morocco reaffirmed its stance based on the fixed positions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, expressing rejection of crisis management approaches, calling for a ceasefire, providing humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people, and adhering to the two-state solution based on the Arab Peace Initiative and United Nations resolutions.
In this context, Bourita confirmed to the high-level audience the importance His Majesty attaches, as President of the Al-Quds Committee, to protecting the Holy City and preserving its identity through the work of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency.
