Japan Delivers a Blow to Algeria’s Attempts to Politicize TICAD9 by Involving the Polisario Front

The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs urgently summoned the Algerian ambassador in Tokyo to express its firm rejection of any attempt to involve the separatist Polisario Front in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), scheduled to take place in the coming days with the participation of leaders from 22 countries.
The Japanese move served as a clear message that summits dedicated to economic cooperation and development partnerships are not arenas for settling scores or imposing separatist agendas, and that the international community increasingly rejects the use of multilateral platforms to advance closed regional disputes.
This firm stance reaffirms the isolation of the separatist project championed by Algeria on the international stage and exposes the limits of its influence beyond a narrow circle, especially as an increasing number of countries rally around the principles of territorial integrity and respect for national sovereignty.
While the Algerian regime continues to exploit the Polisario card in an attempt to impose a fait accompli, international positions are mounting to put an end to such maneuvers — marking a new victory for diplomacy rooted in legitimacy and international law, and a clear defeat for attempts to politicize development for narrow ends.
