In Support of Autonomy Under Morocco’s Sovereignty, ‘Denmark Considers Autonomy Plan Presented by Morocco in 2007 as Serious, Credible Contribution to Ongoing UN Process and as Good Basis for Solution’

Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, held talks on Wednesday in New York with Denmark’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.

In a Joint Communiqué issued at the end of this meeting, “Denmark considers the Autonomy Plan presented by Morocco in 2007 as a serious and credible contribution to the ongoing UN process and as a good basis for an agreed solution between all parties.”

In this Joint Communiqué, the two Ministers reiterated their support to the UN-led process and for the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, and his efforts to achieve a peaceful and mutually acceptable solution to the conflict, in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.

Denmark’s new position is in line with the international momentum generated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in support of the autonomy plan and Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara. It confirms a fundamental trend in Europe, in all regions of the continent.
