The Chellah archaeological site in Rabat hosted, on Tuesday evening, the annual reception marking the United States’ National Day. This year’s event carried special significance, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of American independence.

The ceremony brought together Moroccan government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, as well as economic stakeholders and partners from both the public and private sectors, in a celebration highlighting the depth of the historical ties between Morocco and the United States, spanning nearly two and a half centuries.

The U.S. Embassy in Rabat emphasized that the Kingdom of Morocco holds a distinguished place in the history of bilateral relations, as the first country to recognize American independence, laying the foundation for one of the United States’ oldest diplomatic partnerships.

The event highlighted key areas of bilateral cooperation, including security, diplomacy, trade, and investment, alongside the growing partnership in innovation, infrastructure, and economic development.

The embassy also recalled key symbols of the long-standing American presence in Morocco, notably the U.S. Legation in Tangier, considered the oldest continuously operating American diplomatic mission in the world, as well as the inauguration of the new U.S. Consulate General headquarters in Casablanca, reflecting a continued commitment to strengthening ties between the two nations.

In his remarks, U.S. Ambassador to Morocco Duke Buchan stated that the celebration goes beyond marking American independence, serving instead as an opportunity to honor a strategic relationship built on trust, cooperation, and a shared forward-looking vision.

The American diplomat also stressed the importance of strengthening economic and human ties between the two peoples, reaffirming his country’s support for initiatives aimed at enhancing development opportunities and transatlantic partnership.

The event also coincides with the participation of the Moroccan national football team in the World Cup hosted in the United States, seen as another example of the growing human and cultural connection between the two countries.

The evening concluded with fireworks and drone shows, symbolizing the historic friendship between Rabat and Washington and reflecting a shared ambition to further strengthen the partnership in the years ahead.
