In a strong diplomatic statement reaffirming its support for Morocco and its territorial integrity, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Guatemala, Mr. Carlos Ramiro Martínez Alvarado, declared that the autonomy initiative proposed by Morocco in 2007 constitutes “the serious, sole, and realistic basis” for reaching a final and lasting solution to the artificial dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
Speaking at a press conference held on July 3, 2025, in the capital Rabat alongside his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita, the Guatemalan minister stressed that this initiative is the only viable path to end the dispute while fully respecting the Kingdom’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty.
This statement reflects Guatemala’s consistent and unwavering support for Morocco’s legitimate position and further strengthens the solid political and diplomatic partnership between the two countries, which is built on the principles of clarity, solidarity, and support for just causes.
This stance comes within the framework of a growing international momentum in support of Morocco’s autonomy initiative, which is increasingly recognized by numerous countries around the world as a serious and credible solution.
