The Moroccan consortium of TGCC and SGTM companies has won a major contract to build what will be, upon completion, the largest football stadium in the world, with a budget of 3.2 billion dirhams. This project, part of the Kingdom’s vision to strengthen its position as a global sports actor, ranks among the largest public investments in the sports sector and is expected to become a national pride as well as a unique architectural landmark on both continental and international levels.

This anticipated football monument is located in the Benslimane area, between Casablanca and Rabat. Its strategic location enables seamless connection between Morocco’s two largest urban centers, while also being close to major road and rail networks, facilitating easy access for fans by car, train, or even air travel due to its proximity to Mohammed V Airport and Rabat-Salé Airport. The new stadium will have a seating capacity exceeding 115,000 spectators, surpassing some of the most famous stadiums worldwide in size. It will be constructed according to advanced engineering and environmental standards that emphasize sustainability and architectural beauty, drawing inspiration from local Moroccan culture with a modern vision.

The Moroccan consortium’s victory in securing this construction contract was no easy feat, coming after fierce competition involving major contractors both inside and outside Morocco. This reflects the growing trust in the national contractor’s ability to deliver large-scale projects requiring technical precision, meticulous planning, and strict adherence to deadlines. The construction work is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, ahead of the kickoff of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host alongside Spain and Portugal, making this stadium one of the key infrastructures for this global event.

The stadium project is not limited to a sporting venue alone; it will be a fully integrated complex including entertainment areas, training facilities, multi-purpose halls, as well as a hotel and commercial centers. This comprehensive design aligns with modern trends in large sports facility development, which are no longer just competition arenas but vibrant urban centers that generate sustainable economic and social dynamism throughout the year.

This colossal project stands as further proof of Morocco’s ambition to strengthen its international standing in the sports field and reflects a forward-looking vision that views sports as a genuine driver of development, excellence, and a platform to promote Morocco’s global image. Additionally, this endeavor highlights a clear political will to invest in quality projects that combine international visibility with direct economic impact at the local level, through job creation and the stimulation of economic activity in areas surrounding the project.
