Moroccan Sahara: Germany Ready to Support Economic Development in Southern Provinces - German FM

Germany has expressed its readiness to support economic development in the Kingdom’s Southern Provinces, the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany, Johann David Wadephul said on Thursday in Rabat.

Speaking during a joint press briefing with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, following the second session of the Multidimensional Strategic Dialogue between Morocco and Germany, Wadephul underlined Germany’s readiness to support the economic development in the Southern Provinces “in order to achieve sustainable development and create a conducive environment for investment, mainly by encouraging more German companies to engage in it.”

In this regard, he described Morocco as the region’s economic powerhouse and noted that the Kingdom’s economic strengths, particularly in the Sahara, are likely to further strengthen the partnership between the two countries.

The German official also welcomed the adoption of Resolution 2797 by the UN Security Council in October 2025, concluding that “genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty is the most promising solution.”

In this respect, he indicated that Germany supports the efforts of the Security Council which encourages “all involved parties to engage in conflict resolution on the basis of the Moroccan autonomy plan,” in order to reach a definitive solution to the regional dispute.
