Bourita Represents His Majesty the King at Ecuadorian President’s Inauguration Amid Growing Diplomatic Rapprochement

ALDAR/

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita, arrived on Friday in Quito, the capital of Ecuador, to represent His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, at the inauguration ceremony of the new President of the Republic of Ecuador, Mr. Daniel Noboa Azin.

This participation comes in a positive and notable diplomatic context, following the historic decision made by Quito last October to suspend its recognition of the so-called “Sahrawi Republic” — a recognition that dated back to 1983. This move marked a turning point in relations between the two countries.

Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Gabriela Sommerfeld announced this position during a phone call with Mr. Nasser Bourita, in which she officially informed him of the decision to withdraw recognition and to close the representation previously run by separatists in the Ecuadorian capital.

This development is part of the diplomatic momentum led by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, aimed at strengthening the Moroccan identity of the Sahara on the international stage and solidifying the autonomy initiative as a serious and realistic solution to the regional dispute.

Morocco’s high-level participation in the inauguration is seen as a clear sign of the shared desire to deepen bilateral cooperation between Rabat and Quito and to open new prospects in various fields, further enhancing the rapprochement between the Kingdom of Morocco and Latin American countries.
