DRC Reaffirms Full Support for Morocco’s Sovereignty Over the Sahara and Disavows Suspicious MoU Between SADC and Polisario

ALDAR/
In a firm response to a suspicious Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on April 2, 2025, between the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the separatist entity Polisario, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) issued an official statement reaffirming its clear and unwavering position on the Moroccan Sahara issue.

The ministry outlined three key points in its statement:
1.The signed MoU is not legally binding, meaning the DRC retains full sovereignty in determining its position on the Sahara issue.
2.The Congolese government firmly upholds the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco, considering the Sahara an inseparable part of Moroccan territory.
3.Kinshasa reiterates its full support for Morocco’s autonomy plan for the southern provinces, presented to the United Nations, which it considers the most realistic and appropriate solution to end the fabricated regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

This clarification comes at a time when international reactions are intensifying against attempts to undermine Morocco’s sovereignty or impose narratives that contradict international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
The DRC’s stance reflects its consistent and longstanding support for the Kingdom of Morocco, and represents yet another setback for the Polisario’s ongoing efforts to gain international legitimacy through illegitimate agreements with regional organizations.
