Morocco–Greece: New Momentum to Strengthen Bilateral Partnership

Morocco and Greece reaffirmed on Monday in Athens their determination to give fresh impetus to their bilateral relations and place them on a renewed and more ambitious trajectory.
This commitment was expressed during a meeting between Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis and Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, who is on a working visit to Greece.
Bourita’s visit, the first by a Moroccan foreign minister at this level to Greece in more than three decades, carries particular significance.
The two ministers welcomed the excellent relations between the two countries and reaffirmed their determination to intensify political dialogue, increase high-level visits and deepen consultations on bilateral, regional and international issues of common interest.
They also agreed to translate this new momentum into revitalized and diversified bilateral cooperation.
With Gerapetritis expected to visit Morocco shortly, the talks focused on developing a roadmap for this new phase, particularly in economic and trade cooperation, investment, green energy, defense, tourism, maritime transport, culture, justice and consular affairs.
The two ministers stressed the need to accelerate bilateral cooperation mechanisms, enhance their effectiveness and update the legal framework governing relations between the two countries.
This new phase in the Moroccan-Greek partnership also falls within the broader framework of Morocco-EU relations. The ministers highlighted Greece’s positive role in advancing these relations and welcomed the outcomes of the 15th session of the Morocco-EU Association Council, as well as the launch of the new Pact for the Mediterranean.
They also praised the quality of Morocco-Greece cooperation within international organizations and underlined the constructive role played by both countries in promoting stability, security and peace at the regional and international levels.
The two officials further noted the convergence of their efforts in combating terrorism and irregular migration.
