Moroccan-Omani Joint Committee: A Renewed Partnership Reflecting the Depth of Bilateral Relations

ALDAR/

In a new embodiment of the deep fraternal ties between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Sultanate of Oman, the past few days witnessed the convening of the seventh session of the Moroccan-Omani Joint Committee—an event that reaffirms the ongoing consultation and close cooperation between the two countries. The previous meeting of this kind was held in the capital, Rabat, on July 4, 2023, highlighting the regularity of bilateral meetings and the shared commitment to advancing relations toward broader horizons.

The seventh session was not merely a protocol event but carried clear messages of support, most notably Oman’s reaffirmation of its firm stance on the Moroccan Sahara issue. Oman considers the autonomy initiative proposed by Morocco as a realistic and credible basis for resolving this regional dispute.

The roots of Moroccan-Omani relations date back several decades, having been established during the reigns of the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said and the late King Hassan II—may they rest in peace—and have continued to flourish under King Mohammed VI and Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, strengthened by a spirit of mutual understanding and fruitful cooperation.

This bilateral understanding extends into a broader framework, represented by the strong relations between Morocco and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, crowned by a strategic partnership since 2012. Morocco enjoys special esteem within this regional bloc, thanks in large part to the pioneering role of King Mohammed VI, particularly through his presidency of the Al-Quds Committee, which works tirelessly in defense of the Palestinian cause.

Gulf countries, including the Sultanate of Oman, also consistently commend the initiatives launched by the Moroccan monarch across the African continent, aimed at supporting efforts for peace, security, and stability in the region—further reinforcing Morocco’s image as a responsible actor on the international stage.
