Contradictions of the Algerian Regime: Between the Token Defense of Palestine and Trade with Israel

ALDAR/Analysis
Algeria’s policy of hypocrisy continues to manifest itself as a supporter of the Palestinian cause, with a token confirmation of its stance against Israeli occupation.
However, foreign trade figures reveal controversial aspects of Algeria’s positions. Recent reports have shown that Algeria, which attempts to market itself as a leading defender of Palestinian rights, is the fourth-largest Arab exporter to Israel, following the UAE, Jordan, and Egypt.
While official Algerian statements continuously show symbolic support for the Palestinian people by condemning Israeli occupation and calling for a fair resolution of the issue, the reality of economic relations presents a different picture.
In fact, Algeria plays an unexpected role in trade with Israel despite official political stances.
This contradiction between political positions and economic relations is linked to Algeria’s strategic interests, which may not be clear to some.
Even though Algeria raises the banner of supporting Palestine on international platforms, trade with Israel reflects a different reality, as Algeria seeks economic partnerships and investments in fields that may be out of the public eye.
How can this gap between political rhetoric and economic practices be explained?
On the other hand, this disparity may also be a point of criticism from some political and popular circles, who see these trade relations with Israel as contradictory to the official symbolic position of supporting Palestine.
