Partial Solar Eclipse to Grace Morocco’s Skies on Wednesday… Ministry of Endowments Clarifies Position on Eclipse Prayer

Morocco will witness a remarkable astronomical phenomenon tomorrow, Wednesday, August 12, 2026, as a partial solar eclipse is expected to be visible across several regions of the Kingdom, with variations in the percentage of the Sun’s disk covered and the timing of the phenomenon from one area to another.
The eclipse is expected to begin in Morocco at around 6:44 p.m. local time, reaching its peak at approximately 7:40 p.m. In some parts of the country, more than 92% of the Sun’s disk could be obscured.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs announced that no eclipse prayer will be held in the Kingdom’s mosques during the phenomenon. The ministry explained that the eclipse will occur after the Asr prayer and continue until shortly before sunset.
The ministry noted that this period falls within the times when voluntary prayers are discouraged, calling instead for supplication and seeking forgiveness during the eclipse.
Meanwhile, some parts of the world will experience a total solar eclipse, particularly areas of Spain, Iceland and Greenland, while the eclipse will be partial in Morocco and other regions.
Experts have also warned against looking directly at the Sun during the eclipse, as this could cause serious eye damage. They stressed that ordinary sunglasses do not provide adequate protection and that safe viewing requires the use of special-purpose eclipse glasses.
