Moroccan Sahara: Chad Opens Consulate General in Dakhla

The Republic of Chad opened, on Wednesday, a Consulate General in Dakhla.

The inauguration of the Consulate General’s headquarters and the installation of the new Consul General took place at a ceremony presided over by Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration, Chadians Abroad and International Cooperation, Government Spokesman, Abderaman Koulamallah, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.

The inauguration of the Chadian Consulate General in Dakhla confirms and operationalises the decision of the Republic of Chad, notified to the Moroccan authorities on 7 September 2022, to open a Consulate General in Dakhla, in the Moroccan Sahara.

During the ceremony, the two ministers stressed that the opening of the Consulate General of Chad in Dakhla reflects the quality and intensity of the ties between Morocco and Chad, which are marked by their historical depth and stamped with the seal of brotherhood and solidarity, in accordance with the guidelines of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God Assist him, and of His brother, His Excellency President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno.

The opening of the Consulate General of Chad in Dakhla comes as part of Koulamallah’s visit to Morocco, during which he and Bourita signed a joint Communiqué reiterating (Chad’s) « constant position in favor of Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over the whole of its territory, including the Sahara region ».

With this opening of the Republic of Chad, the number of Consulates in the Southern Provinces has risen to 29, including 17 in Dakhla.
