Three Regions behind 58.6% of Morocco’s Wealth in 2021 – HCP

Leading the pole is the Casablanca-Settat region with almost a third (32.2%) of national GDP created, while the two regions of Rabat-Salé-Kenitra and Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima created just over a quarter (26.4%) of national wealth, with 15.9% and 10.5% respectively, says the HCP in an information note on the regional accounts for 2021.

Five regions generated another third (33.5%) of GDP: Fez-Meknes with 8.2%, Marrakech-Safi with 7.9%, Souss-Massa with 6.2%, Beni Mellal-Khenifra with 5.9% and the Oriental with 5.3%.

The three southern regions and the Draa-Tafilalet region only contributed 7.7% to GDP creation in value terms, with 4.8% and 2.8% respectively.

Under these conditions, disparities in wealth creation between regions have widened. The average absolute deviance (the average of the absolute deviance between the GDP of the different regions and the average regional GDP) has risen from MAD 66.4 billion in 2020 to MAD 71.8 billion in 2021, according to the HCP.
