International Recognition of Moroccanness of Sahara Plunges ‘Division Marketers’ into more Darkness – Ambassador
In an exclusive interview with “South African Broadcasting Corporation” (SABC), Amrani highlighted the value, meaning and profound implications of the US proclamation recognizing the Kingdom’s full sovereignty over its Saharan provinces.
The diplomat described the US decision as a “historic breakthrough” and a “diplomatic synergy that cements internationally the legitimacy of a united Morocco for the defense and preservation of its territorial integrity.
“The bells of the international community ring out louder and louder echoing the immaculate and indisputable truth of a complete and entire Moroccan Sahara,”he said.
The American proclamation comes, in essence, to confirm in the wake of an international consciousness that expresses, actively and proactively, the unwavering support for the relevance of a Moroccan approach which has never deviated from international legality, the diplomat added.
The United States and Morocco have an intertwined history of friendship, trust, and cooperation, and the strategic nature of the partnership between the two countries heralded this US decision, he said.
For several years, the various US administrations have always shown an explicitly positive political sensitivity and strong support for Morocco and its autonomy plan introduced in 2007, Amrani underlined.
“The formal recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty by the United States is, therefore, a source of additional and particular satisfaction for our diplomacy as it is for the Moroccan nation,” he noted.
The Moroccan diplomat also pointed out that the opening of a US Consulate in Dakhla combines political support and exceptional economic prospects for our two nations that have chosen mutually beneficial cooperation.
The diplomat rejected any assessment that would link the American decision to a logic of “exchange” with the restoration of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Israel.
In that regard, Amrani stressed that “the restoration of diplomatic relations with Israel is a sovereign and independent action taken by Morocco as a mark of its values of tolerance and peace.”
The restoration of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Israel is a step all the more natural as the Moroccan Jewish diaspora is the largest in the Arab world and that the Moroccan Constitution of 2011 honors the contribution of the Hebrew component to the national identity, Amrani said.
More than one million Moroccan Jews currently live in Israel and have maintained close ties with their homeland, he recalled.
“Morocco’s position remains intact and unchanged with regard to the support given to our Palestinian brothers and sisters in their just and legitimate cause, as His Majesty King Mohammed VI expressly and explicitly stated in his telephone conversation with the President of the United States, Donal Trump,” the diplomat concluded.
