Saint Lucia reaffirms its support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara
This position was expressed in a joint communiqué signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, M. Nasser Bourita, and his Saint Lucian peer, Alva Romanus Baptiste, following their meeting in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
In this communiqué, Saint Lucia “reiterates its full support for the Moroccan autonomy plan as the only credible, serious and realistic solution” and “commends the growing international consensus and the momentum driven by His Majesty King Mohammed VI for the autonomy plan.”
Saint Lucia also “welcomes the historic adoption of resolution 2797 by UN Security Council on October 31, 2025, enshrining a genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty as the only reliable solution to the artificial dispute over the Sahara.”
During this meeting, the two ministers also examined the means of bolstering bilateral ties, while delving into cooperation prospects in order to meet the two friendly countries’ aspirations and ambitions.
The two sides also examined the means of strengthening the regional partnership between Morocco and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), currently chaired by Saint Lucia.
At the meeting’s conclusion, Baptiste “expressed the sincere gratitude of the government and people of Saint Lucia for the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI for a South-South cooperation based on efficiency, solidarity, and pragmatism, a Royal vision that aims to preserve stability and security in the Caribbean region thanks to concrete socio-economic projects.”
