From the Moroccan capital, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau renewed the United States’ position in support of Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces, stressing that the autonomy initiative proposed by Rabat remains the serious and realistic basis for reaching a just and lasting solution to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

In a statement published following his meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita, the American official said the talks covered a broad range of bilateral, regional, and international issues in what he described as a positive atmosphere. He also praised the wisdom and effectiveness of Moroccan diplomacy.

Landau reaffirmed that the United States is committed to further strengthening its strategic partnership with Morocco, recalling the deep historical ties linking the two countries for nearly 250 years. He emphasized that this longstanding friendship provides a strong foundation for expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.

The U.S. official also welcomed Morocco’s accession as the 64th member of the Artemis Accords, which aim to promote peaceful and responsible space exploration. This step reflects the Kingdom’s growing standing in the fields of technology, innovation, and future-oriented partnerships.

This renewed American position once again confirms the growing international momentum in favor of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, while separatist narratives continue to lose ground and opponents of the Kingdom’s territorial integrity struggle to alter the course of the issue within the international community.
