Moroccan group Arma Holding has secured a major strategic contract for waste management in the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott, valued at approximately 1.615 billion Moroccan dirhams over a renewable ten-year period. This achievement follows a highly competitive international tender involving several specialized companies and represents a natural extension of Arma’s operations, which are rooted in extensive experience in waste management and urban services both within Morocco and abroad.

The new contract in Nouakchott goes beyond its technical and financial dimensions, reflecting Arma Holding’s deliberate regional strategy to strengthen its presence in major African cities by providing sustainable and innovative urban sanitation solutions. Nouakchott is among the cities facing significant environmental challenges due to waste accumulation, prompting local authorities to launch a comprehensive reform program through partnerships with highly competent and experienced companies like Arma.

Founded in 2011, the Moroccan group has become a key player in waste management across more than 25 Moroccan cities, including Casablanca — the Kingdom’s most complex urban environment. Arma has successfully built an integrated model for providing sanitation services, incorporating modern equipment, eco-friendly trucks, smart tracking systems, and a well-trained workforce. The growing confidence in the group stems from its ability to combine operational efficiency with adherence to international environmental standards.

Arma’s ambitions have not been limited to the Moroccan market. In recent years, it has expanded its activities to several African countries, notably Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire, overseeing similar projects centered on recycling and improving environmental infrastructure. This positions Arma as a model of South-South cooperation and strengthens Morocco’s role as a source of expertise in sustainable development.

The new Mauritanian contract holds dual strategic significance: on one hand, it is expected to bring about a qualitative shift in sanitation in Nouakchott, and on the other, it reinforces the visibility of Moroccan companies at the heart of West Africa. This step stands as concrete evidence that Moroccan expertise — both technical and human — is capable of competing and leading at the regional level in fields long dominated by foreign companies.

Morocco’s expansion into the heart of Mauritania reflects the growing dynamism of African cooperation and highlights the increasing role of national companies in exporting Morocco’s successful development model to broader geographical areas. It is part of a strategic vision that balances economic growth with a commitment to addressing the environmental challenges facing the continent.
