The Director General of the National Motorway Company of Morocco has announced an ambitious project aimed at expanding the network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations along the country’s key road corridors, in preparation for hosting the FIFA World Cup in 2030.
This initiative is part of a broader national strategy to enhance infrastructure for sustainable mobility and provide a comfortable, eco-friendly travel experience for the influx of international visitors expected during this global event. A recent report issued by the company highlights that Morocco already boasts advanced infrastructure in this sector, with most of the charging stations concentrated along the Tangier–Agadir axis, covering nearly 90% of the route. The distance between each station does not exceed 26 kilometers, ensuring effective coverage for electric vehicle users.
The significance of this initiative goes beyond the logistical aspects of organizing a global sporting event. It also represents a key pillar in the Kingdom’s efforts to transition toward a clean and sustainable transport system, aligning with the global shift toward renewable energy and emissions reduction.
This project is expected to be a turning point in promoting the adoption of electric vehicles by encouraging both citizens and visitors to use this mode of transport, contributing to the reduction of the carbon footprint and the improvement of air quality in Moroccan cities.
Through this vision, Morocco positions itself among the pioneering countries in environmentally preparing for major sporting events, sending a clear message that economic development can go hand in hand with environmental preservation — serving the future of coming generations.
