Renewed Arab and African Support for Morocco’s Sovereignty over the Sahara: Egypt and Senegal Reaffirm Backing for the Kingdom’s Territorial Integrity

ALDAR/

Both the Republic of Senegal and the Arab Republic of Egypt today renewed their explicit and unwavering support for the Kingdom of Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces, affirming their solidarity with Morocco in its legitimate defense of its territorial unity.

The official statements issued by authorities in both countries reflect the continuity of a stance long maintained by Cairo and Dakar across various international platforms. This position aligns with international legitimacy and the spirit of African cooperation aimed at promoting stability and rejecting fabricated conflicts.

Senegal: Unconditional Support for Decades

Senegal is one of the most prominent traditional supporters of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara. In 2020, it took a symbolic and political step by opening a general consulate in the city of Dakhla, which practically recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces. This stance stems from a longstanding brotherly relationship between Rabat and Dakar, based on mutual respect and bilateral cooperation in areas such as development, security, and counterterrorism.

In a recent statement, a high-ranking Senegalese official emphasized that his country’s support for Morocco’s claim over the Sahara is “a firm and unchanging position,” stressing that the only viable solution to the regional conflict lies in Morocco’s autonomy proposal—an initiative the international community views as “serious and credible.”

Egypt: Reaffirming Support and Strengthening Political Alignment

Egypt, for its part, reiterated its firm position on the Moroccan Sahara issue. Egyptian diplomatic sources expressed Cairo’s full support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, noting that Egypt favors a political solution based on realism and pragmatism within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty.

This position reflects Egypt’s foreign policy aimed at supporting regional stability, particularly in North Africa and the Sahel. Egypt firmly opposes any separatist movements that threaten the unity of nations or fuel internal conflicts.

Clear Messages to Opponents of Territorial Unity

The renewed support from two major African nations sends a strong political message to Algeria and the “Polisario Front.” It signals that the regional isolation faced by the separatist agenda is deepening day by day. It also illustrates a growing strategic shift in the African continent toward supporting stability and unity, rather than encouraging fragmentation and secession.

As more African and Arab consulates open in the cities of Dakhla and Laayoune, it becomes increasingly clear that the Royal vision launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI to consolidate Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara through development and economic diplomacy is bearing fruit—with growing international backing and steadfast positions from Arab and African allies.

The renewed Egyptian and Senegalese support for Morocco’s Sahara not only reflects the strength of bilateral relations but also underscores that the issue is now seen as one of regional security and stability. Its implications go beyond Morocco’s borders to affect the future of the entire continent. Amid this diplomatic momentum, the Kingdom of Morocco continues to secure strategic gains that enhance its continental and international standing and reinforce its sovereignty over the Sahara day by day.
