Omar Hilale: Algeria Has Become a Launchpad for Destabilization, Secessionism, and Extremism in the Region

Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Omar Hilale, has accused Algeria of playing a negative role in destabilizing the Maghreb and Sahel regions, stating that it has become a hub for separatist movements and extremist groups.

In a strong statement, Hilale emphasized that Algeria’s regional policies have not only fueled conflicts but have also paved the way for the rise of terrorist threats, thereby jeopardizing the security and stability of neighboring countries.

The Moroccan official stressed that Algeria’s approach enables armed groups to exploit the fragile security conditions, further complicating regional and international efforts aimed at achieving security and development across both the Maghreb and the African Sahel.

In light of this situation, Hilale underlined the importance of countering attempts to fragment states from within, calling for collective cooperation to confront extremism and separatism, and to promote stability through responsible policies that respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations.
